ABSTRACT
Looking forward, and assuming that Uganda will one day in the not-too-fardistant future become an independent African state, it would seem that English must inevitably gain ground as the common language of the country and of communication with the outside world, but, for the Ganda, Luganda will undoubtedly continue as the domestic language for the foreseeable future.
