ABSTRACT

In pre-colonial days around the northern and western shores of Lake Victoria was a group of similar kingdom-states. When the first accounts of this area became available to the Western World, Buganda was one of the largest and, for political and historical reasons, has become one of the best-known of these states. Lying to the east across the Nile was a group of smaller kingdom-states, closely related to Buganda and known collectively as Busoga.
