ABSTRACT

In early 2013, President Obama announced Presidential Policy Directive 21 (PPD-21), Critical Infrastructure Security and Resilience, thus setting the stage for the next era in critical infrastructure protection policies. With this new plan, the number of critical sectors was reduced from 18 to 16, and a reorganization of a number of the Sector-Specic Agencies (SSAs) and their sectors took place. Each SSA develops a Sector-Specic Plan (SSP) through a coordinated effort involving its public and private sector partners. These plans detail how the National Infrastructure Protection Plan (NIPP) risk management framework is implemented within the context of the unique characteristics and risk environment of each sector.1 SSPs are updated every 4 years to ensure that each sector is meeting evolving threats.
