ABSTRACT
Suicide is not uncommon among the Gisu, but threats of suicide are not used as a means of getting one's own way to any great extent. Nor do the Gisu, unlike the Bantu Kavirondo,1 use suicide as a means of revenge, killing themselves in order to create a malevolent ghost which will bring evil on those whose wrong-doing has caused the death.
