ABSTRACT

Roscoe1 describes the Gisu as “ of the common negroid type : they are of medium height, have broad noses lacking any pretensions to a bridge and are brachycephalic with short woolly hair curling into tufts. The features on the whole have a pleasing character, there being nothing repulsive about them as is the case in some cannibal tribes met with nearer the West Coast/ ' The description is apt though there is more variation in skin colour, facial structure and body-build than would appear from Roscoe's picture. A much broader face with more protruding cheek-bones is common in the southern areas.
