ABSTRACT
When languages have been eliminated or suppressed, restoring them to public presence becomes all the more powerful. To be effective, these translations must be embedded in a collective desire to reinstate a forgotten, repressed or wilfully suppressed memory. The Space of Synagogues in Lviv is such an attempt to reinscribe the Jewish presence into the urban fabric of the city, through acts of translation.
