ABSTRACT

Nothing could be more poignant than the last decade of Keyt’s life. He yearned incessantly to be with Martin but neither his finances nor his personal life allowed it. His uneasy companionship with Kusum continued and he was unable to deal with either her dominant personality or her fits of manic conditions. By 1988 the couple had moved in with George’s second son Sachin and his wife Vasanti because living in Amunugama had become very isolating for them. Staying in Piliyandala, about ten miles from Colombo, seemed like a good compromise and bought them into contact with an urban milieu. But this was to last only for five years after which they returned to the Kandyan village on 23 January 1992.
