ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of the book. The book analyses the impact of Teachers for a New Era (TNE) has had on the teacher education enterprise. It reviews the accomplishments at each of the 11 sites suggests that on all three design principles—programs based in evidence, arts and sciences engagement, and partnering with K–12 schools—most of the sites made significant progress from which the field can learn. The TNE design principles are evident throughout, particularly the requirement that institutions provide data on their graduates' classroom performance, as well as evidence that research on candidates' and graduates' performance is used to evaluate program effects and inform improvements. Today, virtually every state produces such data, and most states have instituted some form of pupil growth or value-added research as part of school and teacher evaluation systems.
