ABSTRACT

The classroom that serves as the makeup studio was not specifically designed for that purpose. If the class is being taught at a college, or university, then it is more than likely in a dressing room. This chapter compares the studio classrooms at the Academy of Make Up Arts (AMUA) in Nashville, Tennessee and California State University, Fullerton (CSUF). AMUA leases its space in an office complex, so there was a certain amount of choice involved when deciding on the location initially. CSUF had an opportunity in the late 1990s to add on to the existing Performing Arts building, and a new makeup studio was part of that addition. CSUF has a theater arts and dance program with two theaters, offices, scene shop, prop room, lighting lab, costume shop, various storage areas, classrooms, and a makeup studio. The 1,000 square foot makeup classroom has an attached 200 square foot storage room.
