Itshouldbeevidentfromourdiscussionthusfarthatreligionin general,andIslaminparticular,playsafundamentalrolein Mu'ammaral-Qadhdhafi'sthought.Hisfaithin,andcommitment to,Islamhaveprovidedtheprimaryfocus,frameworkandimpetus forhissocialideasandpoliticalactions.Theyhavealsoprovidedthe basisofhisimageinboththeArabandIslamicworldandtheWest. However,beforewetakeabrieflookatthisimage,itmaybeuseful totakeacloserlookatQadhdhafi'sdesertandIslamicroots.
