ABSTRACT

French and British administrative rule. The kingdom of Libya then consisted of three federated provinces, covering 1,768,000 square kilometres, but with a population of only 2.5 million people. The three provinces were Cyrenaica in the east with its capital Benghazi, Tripoli in the west with Tripoli as its capital, and Fezzan in the south. These were important self-contained tribal and demographic regions.
