ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on measuring sports-related physical fitness and specific sports skills included in the psychomotor domain. The field-based tests included have information about their purpose, instructions, validity and reliability, appropriate age level, testing materials and areas, scoring procedures, norms (when available), and organizational hints. Section 1 of the chapter deals with measuring skill-related physical fitness. Components of skill-related fitness are presented, and selected field tests to measure these components are described. Test batteries to assess skill-related physical fitness are also presented. Section 2 of the chapter highlights tests to measure specific sports skills. The tests cited in this chapter are appropriate for K – 12 settings, require little expense, and are easy to administer. These tests provide a representative sample of traditional psychomotor tests.
