ABSTRACT

The Kamba454 inhabit the present-day administrative districts of Machakos and Kitui, the River Athi being their common boundary; Machakos contains the traditional sections of Ulu and Kikumbuliu or Kibwezi, and Kitui contains the sections of Kitui and Mumoni. Slight cultural and dialectal differences are recognized between the divisions, but the Kamba consider themselves to be one people. The people of Ulu ("the high country” ) sometimes refer to those of Kitui as Adaisu or Athaisu.
