ABSTRACT

In this chapter, real concerns and stressors faced by school psychology interns are described and normalized, with an analysis of potential ways to problem solve through these issues, such as goal setting and setting realistic expectations. Clarifying goals and expectations should be incorporated early on as part of the internship plan and internship supervision discussions at the site- and university-level. An emphasis is placed on the importance of self-care behaviors as well as the need for social support, both personal and professional. Suggestions are also provided for developing a community of interns and helping loved ones understand the unique nature of the school psychology intern role to better be able to provide interns with support.
