ABSTRACT

This chapter summarizes the author's benchmark data collection from more than 26,000 projects derived from more than 400 companies and 50 government organizations in about 27 countries gathered between 1967 and 2017. When collecting benchmarks for other Fortune 500 companies, the author also had access to many thousands of their internal software benchmark data collections. The chapter focuses on the reader's software productivity and quality results with consistent and accurate metrics such as International Function Point Users Group, IFPUG function points, defect potentials, and DRE. Function points per month is mathematically related to work hours per function point, but has a major difference in possible results. Work hours per function point is the most stable metric available, and can be used for projects developed anywhere in the world. Cost drivers are usually listed in rank order with the most expensive factors at the top of the list.
