ABSTRACT

Executive summary: The term “DevOps” is a combination of “development” and “operations.” DevOps is one of the newer methodologies and is based on collaboration between the development team and the operations and maintenance teams. DevOps uses modern methods such as continuous integration and continuous delivery. The goal of DevOps is not only faster development and higher quality than waterfall, but more stable and reliable operations and reduced maintenance. Clearly, DevOps is aimed at software projects with the operations personnel in the same location as the development personnel. DevOps is not aimed at commercial software that will be installed at unknown numbers of distant locations in hundreds or perhaps thousands of companies.
