ABSTRACT

Executive summary: In 2016, the average business application is more than 10 years old and often unstable. Some are over 25 years old and very unstable. The term “legacy replacement” refers to keeping the essential features of an existing legacy application but replacing it with a new version using improved technologies and modern programming languages. The first step in legacy replacement may be to review and update existing documentation. If documentation is incorrect or missing, data mining can create synthetic documents.
