ABSTRACT

The market access (MA) concept was first introduced by the World Trade Organization (WTO) to define the competing relation between the domestic and the imported products of a country. The WTO was established under the Marrakesh Agreements of 1994. The main intents behind this organization were to promote free market, transparency, reciprocity, and nondiscrimination in the field of international trade between participating countries. As health is a particular kind of good, as we discussed in Chapter 1, we present the context in which pharmaceutical MA should be seen, in Sections 3.1.2 through 3.1.6.
