ABSTRACT

The National Institute for Health and Disability Insurance (Institut Nationald’Assurance Maladie-Invalidité [INAMI], Rijksinstituut voor ziekte-en invaliditeitsverzekering [RIZIV]) is responsible for the organization and the reimbursement of health care expenses.1 This federal institution establishes the rules for the reimbursement and determines the tariffs of the health care services (the so-called nomenclature) and pharmaceuticals. It organizes, manages, and supervises the implementation of the compulsory health insurance and inspects both the sickness funds and the health care providers to see whether they correctly apply the rules of the health care and health insurance system.
