Technological innovation for environment
Before analysing the implementation of the Eco-Innovation Programme in the two countries, the chapter briefly introduces the respective context conditions that could potentially facilitate or impede enterprise participation in the programme. Against this background, the implementation dynamics are then examined, bringing to light the main trends, motivations and results of companies’ participation in this programme. Evidence is provided that such factors as past experience of eco-innovation projects, availability of knowledge, resources and motivation have been among the most important factors determining the scenario of participation in the programme. Moreover, the embeddedness in historical manufacturing areas at the local level seems to have played a relevant role too.
