ABSTRACT

Increased population, industrialization, and urbanization are responsible for environmental pollution. Large amounts of toxic waste have been dispersed in thousands of contaminated sites spread across our nation. Thus every one of us is being exposed to contamination from past and present industrial practice. This pollutant fits into two major classes: inorganic and organic. Dyes are organic compounds used for coloring final products from different industries. World dyestuff and dye transitional production is estimated to be around 7 × 108 kg per annum (Vijayakumar et al. 2010). Development of industrial activity may lead to increase in the pollution level to the environment. Textile effluents containing dyes are usually discharged into aquatic systems with and without treatment leading to environmental pollution. Dyes used in the textile industries are exposed to light, water, oxidizing agents, and microbial attack (Wesenberg et al. 2002).
