ABSTRACT

A suspension consists of insoluble solid particles dispersed in a

liquid medium. The suspension typically consists of uniform par-

ticles that are readily suspended and easily dispersed. Suspension

dosage forms include oral suspensions, topical suspensions, and

suspensions for aerosols. Sterile suspension dosage forms include

suspensions for injection (subcutaneous, intramuscular, or intra-

articular) and suspensions for ophthalmic or otic administration.

Some suspensions are ready for use, while others consist of solid

powdermixtureswhich need to be reconstitutedwith a vehicle prior

to use. In addition, some suspensions are prepared from tablets.1
