ABSTRACT

This chapter explains the research motivation for bio-based tuning issues such as particle swarm optimization, immune algorithm, bacterial foraging, and its hybrid system for tuning. It presents an overview of intelligence and discusses the role of a proportional-integral-derivative controller in an automatic system and necessity and motivation of intelligent tuning. The chapter describes needs of evolutionary-based intelligent control such as immune algorithm, particle swarm optimization, and bacteria foraging. The cells in immune network can respond either positively or negatively to the recognition signal. There are two aspects of research on immune systems: the general characteristic of an immune network and the efficient application of immunological concepts to the given problem being solved. Their immune system is focused on the clonal selection principle, together with the affinity maturation of the immune response. The chapter also presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in this book.
