ABSTRACT

The anatomy of the hip is quite complex and a sound understanding

of the normal anatomy is essential in identifying an abnormality. In

this chapter we discuss the normal imaging anatomy of the hip.

A systematic approach to evaluating a radiograph of the hip

is an integral part in the management of a patient with hip

pathology. Even with the advent of modern imaging modalities

such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and ultrasound (US),

radiographs remain an important part of the diagnostic algorithm.
