ABSTRACT

The history of health problems associated with radon goes back to

the towns of Schneeberg and Jachymov, where mining started in the

early 15th century (Lewis, 2006).

Mining in those very early years was done for silver, copper,

and iron and later for cobalt-and arsenic-containing ores. After the

discovery of uranium, it was found that the ore contained about 1%

uranium. Uranium, at that time, was used for coloring wood, leather,

pottery glazes, and glass.
