ABSTRACT

The outstanding development of renewable energies in the last few decades is the response to the strong driving force for a change in the energy production model currently based upon the combustion of fossil fuels in the search for cleaner and more efficient routes of power generation. Indeed, in the last few years the contribution of renewable resources to the overall power production has dramatically increased up to cover 20-30% of the energy consumption in some western-Europe countries and it should be stressed their potential to cover most of our demand in the mid-and long-term.
