ABSTRACT

The transformation of green energy into fuels easy to store, handle and transport is probably the most straightforward strategy for a future global energy scenario based on renewable resources and, therefore, has recently attracted a lot of attention from researchers, industrialists and politicians. While the generation of electricity from fuels has been developed for decades and presents a mature status, the production of synthetic gas/fuel is still a matter of study. This chemical storage strategy leaves room for different technological approaches. In this chapter, special attention will be devoted to the conversion of green electricity by following power-to-fuel schemes and the accumulation of solar energy in fuel form by artificial photosynthesis.
