ABSTRACT

Oxidative stress depicts the existence of products called free radicals and reactive oxygen species (ROS), which are formed under normal physiological conditions but become deleterious when not being eliminated by the endogenous systems. Marine algae are widely spread throughout the coastal land around many continents focused on the different aspects concerned with their nature and growth. The algae were collected from the coastal region of Gujarat, India. The marine algae were thoroughly washed and shade dried, homogenized to fine powder and stored in airtight bottles. Phenols are very important constituents because of their scavenging ability due to their hydroxyl group and known as powerful chain breaking antioxidants. Antioxidant compounds act by several mechanisms such as, inhibition of generation and scavenging activity against ROS, inhibition of oxidative enzymes and reducing ability. Marine algae have several active chemicals such as antioxidant compounds.
