ABSTRACT

220Configuration of metal surface embedded with metallic nanoparticles is used for the absorption of surface plasma waves (SPW) in the presence of external magnetic field (x-direction). The SPW (propagating in z-direction) excites resonant plasma oscillations in the particles incurring attenuation of the wave. For spherical metallic particles with plasma frequency ω pe , the resonant plasma oscillations occur at ω 2 = ω2 pe /3, where ω is the frequency of the SPW. At this frequency, energy is absorbed by the electrons inside nanoparticles and sharp increase in the absorption of SPW by the metallic particles, depending upon its size, interparticle separation, magnetic field strength and dielectric constant of the metal occurs. The change in absorption constant with external magnetic field is studied.
