ABSTRACT

In the present work, unbalanced water based co-axial Blumlein pulse generator has been designed and developed for generating fast 100 kV, 100 ns voltage pulses across a 25 Ω resistive load. Developed system is of overall 340length 1.7 m and diameter 450 mm. It has been tested upto 47 kV and characterized for change in pulse duration with change in dielectric temperature. A pulse of full width half maxima (FWHM) 133.33 ns is generated at 25°C dielectric temperature. Pulses of FWHM 120.00 ns and 115.50 ns are generated at dielectric temperature 38°C and 45°C, respectively. Pulse FWHM at different temperature is in agreement with decrease in the dielectric constant of de-mineralized (DM) water with increase in temperature. It is seen that generator length can be reduced for a pulse of given duration if dielectric (water) is used at low temperatures.[1]
