10.1 INTRODUCTION

Plants and animals have coevolved over a billion years. We are just starting to fully appreciate how they have evolved multiple ways to help one

another survive adverse environmental stresses during this period. During their co-evolution, plants and animals have carried out “chemical conversations” on stressors in their environment and have adapted to their shared environment accordingly.
