ABSTRACT

The performance of staff members is impacted by many factors and some of the most important and most often abused of those factors relate to the environment in the workplace. The nature of the work environment, positive versus negative, has a major impact on staff member performance and development. Satisfaction is not about winning popularity contests; rather, it is about the creation of a team and an environment where the individual is respected. Speedy resolution of grievances and complaints is part of a positive work environment and a well-led operation. Managers have a responsibility to ensure that a safe work environment exists, a place free from physical hazards, unhealthy conditions, and unsafe or dangerous practices. Effective health and safety practices promote a positive work environment. Job satisfaction revolves around the creation of an environment where each person is valued and respected.
