ABSTRACT

In Chapter 4, we considered singular-function methods for solving linear inverse problems specified by a compact forward operator. In this chapter, we look at alternative methods for solving the infinite-dimensional problems (with a compact forward operator) and also the problems with continuous object and discrete data. In particular, we are interested in the connection between these alternative methods and the singular-function expansion. At this stage, it is perhaps worth reminding the reader of why we believe the singular functions to be important for analysing resolution.
