ABSTRACT

Abstract Protection in the healthcare environment means more than just security, privacy, and identity protection. It also requires safe, bi-directional communication among patients, family members, and advocates, and the set of providers who support a patient, and with whom the patient has consented to share information. This chapter describes a vision for a paradigm; it also describes the gaps in the end-to-end SOS that are used in addressing other complex problems, while also identifying gaps that are especially involved in engaging a patient in his or her own care, and changing behavior. This long-term research and standardization effort needs to start now in order to be ready for 2017-2020.
