ABSTRACT

This chapter is a foray into survival analysis, also known as “time-to-event analysis,” “duration modeling,” or “event history analysis,” depending on the discipline. Whatever the discipline, the goal is generally the same: to model the length of time units (often individuals) remain “at risk,” defined as the time lapsing between the onset of some state and another event signaling termination of that state. Survival analysis is a broad enough statistical topic to command its own textbook. Two widely cited classics are Kalbfleisch and Prentice (2002) and Singer and Willett (2003), while Allison (2010) is an excellent resource for implementing these techniques within SAS.
