ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to briefly highlight some of the many ways PROC SURVEYSELECT can be used to select a random sample. As was stated in the Preface, the primary focus of this book is on the analysis of complex survey data, not designing a complex survey. The reader seeking a more in-depth treatment of survey sample design concepts and theory is referred to any of these excellent texts on the subject: Kish (1965), Cochran (1977), Kalton (1983), Scheaffer et al. (1996), Lohr (2009), and Valliant et al. (2013), to name a few.
