ABSTRACT

Manufacturers, wholesalers, and sellers must ensure that any herbal products they place on the market do not contain banned ingredients. They must also ensure that restricted ingredients are used legally. Restrictions may be added or removed at any time. One must check that the ingredients are legal for a traditional herbal registration for an herbal medicine. The list of banned or restricted herbal ingredients for medicinal use has been prepared by the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency. Prohibit the sale or supply of herbal medicines in the UK except where sold in premises which are registered pharmacies and by or under the supervision of a pharmacist. Prohibit the sale supply or importation of any medicine for human use which consists of or contains a plant or part of a plant belonging to the species Piper methysticum known as Kava-kava or an extract from such a plant, except those for external use only.
