ABSTRACT

There used to be a handful of information sources regarding benchmarks and the associated results, some independent, others biased toward a vendor. With the advent of websites on the Internet, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of sources. Unless the searcher is au fait with all home pages, it is probably best to do a “search.” That aside, the following sources should prove useful in that they contain useful information and act as doorways to other sources on the web:

◾ In many of the benchmarks discussed in this part of the book, we will use benchmark results to illustrate the problem of assessing the relative capacities of two or more systems with a single number. This is not to denigrate the benchmark but to highlight limitations of a single number reported in the exercise.
