ABSTRACT

Process optimization focuses mainly on improving the process safety, reaction prole, and product yield. This chapter addresses various opportunities for optimization of problematic reactions by adding additives. Among a number of methods/technologies that have been developed to suppress side reactions, addition of additives is one of the valuable tools that are frequently used by process chemists. Additives can be categorized into three classes: acid additives, base additives, and other miscellaneous additives. These additives include acids, bases, salts, and various other organic and inorganic compounds.
