ABSTRACT

In 2009, one of the world’s leading general medical journals, The Lancet, and University College London (UCL) Institute for Global Health produced a report on the work of a yearlong commission. It opens with the following statement: “Climate Change is the biggest global health threat of the 21st century” (Costello et al., 2009). Climate has always affected our health, and the growing acknowledgment of climate change and its consequences creates more interest in its impacts. Various factors influence the results: population growth, urbanization, land use reduction, and freshwater resources. These elements affect the community’s health and magnify the impacts of climate change events (Haines, 2006).
