ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews the standards that will be used as a foundation for the rest of the book. Although many organizations strive toward implementing standard processes, this is often not as easy to do as it sounds. There are many organizations defining standards, and these standards are often different from each other. How does one select the best standard? In this book, the selection of which standards to use was based on what seems to have the strongest following today, as well as what I believe will be the dominating standards in the future. In addition, because this book was written in the United States, the standards will be U.S. centric. Regardless of which standards are used in your organization, it is important that the whole organization has the same definitions and the same processes. If not, business analysis (and project management) will be almost impossible to do in an efficient manner.
