ABSTRACT

Gardening is the most popular leisure activity in the world. It is relatively easy to cultivate plants outdoors, somewhat more difficult indoors. Most people can grow plants of reasonable but rarely outstanding quality in both circumstances. Professional horticulturalists, however, employ sophisticated equipment and techniques to maximize yield, quality, and efficiency of production. Many illicit growers have in fact acquired a remarkable degree of skill and knowledge, and are in demand currently to oversee large commercial marijuana production enterprises that are being established, as shown in Figure 14.1. However, a very high degree of horticultural professionalism is now essential to compete in the legal marijuana production industry, and self-taught amateurs experienced in illicit clandestine techniques do not necessarily have the background that best suits a legal industry.
