ABSTRACT

So far, the solution describes changing the role of patients so that they become the decision makers, the responsible parties, for their health and healthcare. Chapters 5 and 6 describe the most important issues, patient-centered care, wellness, and personal responsibility. The solution also proposes to alter health insurance plans so that patients, supported by their primary care physicians, can evaluate trade-offs and make good choices. Chapters 7 and 8 propose redesigning insurance plans and expecting patients to consider the full costs and benefits of the care they elect to receive. These elements of the solution go hand in hand as one reinforces the other.
