ABSTRACT
This chapter provides complementary approaches to the estimation of biomass production in ecosystems that we explored with mass-balance bioenergetics approaches in Chapter 8. The allure of the approaches herein is that complicated physiological models, especially those requiring specific estimates of metabolism, are not required. We end by suggesting that the trophic basis of secondary production has merit and should be applied more frequently.
