ABSTRACT

The immune system cells that constitute the surface of Peyer’s patches. M cells preferentially sample/evaluate certain particles (e.g., viruses) passing over the Peyer’s patch-embedded in the wall of intestine-during the digestive process. Those particles that meet certain criteria (and also specic toxin molecules that adhere to the M cells) are absorbed by the M cells and their antigens “presented” to adjacent lymphoid tissue underlying the Peter’s patch.
