ABSTRACT

Tessaratoma papillosa (litchi stink bag) China: The larvae and adults are salted and heated (Luo 1990). In the Guangxi, Guangdong and Fujian regions, people eat the bugs by wrapping them in cabbage leaves, then instantly cooking them on hot ashes, after removing the heads, wings, legs and viscera (Zhi-Yi 2005). This species is used as a suppressor of swelling (Zimian et al. 1997). Laos: This species is sold in markets around Vientiane, and roasted (Mitsuhashi unpubl. observation, 2012) (PL IV-6). Thailand: The larvae and adults are fried (Hanboonsong et al. 2000).
