ABSTRACT
Having learned the lessons from the past in the preceding chapter, there is one remaining question left open. Where will the journey bring us? What are the developments in manufacturing that will come upon us? This chapter looks into the future and tries to identify things to come. Please be aware that predicting the future is difficult, and by the time you are reading this, these predictions may already be outdated by reality. The following sections describe scenarios of how the future could develop. These options are possible or even likely, although it is difficult to say when they will happen. However, in my view, it definitely would be worthwhile to be prepared for the following developments in manufacturing.
