ABSTRACT

Pfizer Global Supply (PGS) is the commercial manufacturing and supply organization for Pfizer. A focus was placed on leveraging product and process knowledge to help enable speed and agility within PGS and leveraging the know how and know what of colleagues. In the early days, Pfizer had started looking into knowledge management. The ultimate goal from knowledge mapping is to optimize findability for respective functional groups and customers. Knowledge mapping has proven to be an effective tool for understanding the work and the required structure for developing collaboration tools such as SharePoint collaboration sites and sorting content between internal customers and external customers. The business process for how Pfizer develops new products is called Co-Development (Co-Dev). In an effort to bring efficiencies and findability into laboratory, electronic lab notebooks (ELNs) have been implemented in the GTS laboratories. A key success of developing KM capabilities has been collaboration with partners within Pfizer as well as developing relationships with external KM practitioners.
