ABSTRACT

The physical, chemical, and biological properties of materials are important considerations in any study of pollution prevention. A substance may exhibit certain characteristics under one particular set of reaction or process conditions of temperature, pressure, and composition. However, these conditions are often changed when an attempt is made to implement a pollution prevention strategy. To promote a better understanding of such effects, many of which are covered in this chapter, certain key physical, chemical, and biological properties are briey reviewed in this chapter. The last section examines the properties of mixtures.
