ABSTRACT

According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, “cancer” is dened as a group of diseases in which an abnormal cell in any part of the body grows uncontrollably, invading the surrounding tissues. It can also spread to other parts of the body through the blood or lymphatic system (NIH-National Cancer Institute 2015), a process called “metastasis.” The main types of cancers are

• Carcinoma: Originates in the skin or the lining of the internal organs. • Sarcoma: Cancer of the bone, cartilage, muscles, blood vessels, fat, and

other supportive and connective tissue. • Lymphoma and multiple myeloma: Arises in the cells of the immune

system. • Leukemia: Starts from the blood-forming organs, such as bone marrow.
